These terms cover using the calculators and guides on ExerciseCalc. Using the site means you accept them.
Every calculator on this site, pace, calories burned, heart-rate zones, VO2 max, treadmill pace, steps to miles and marathon pace, applies a published formula (the standard MET method, Riegel's race-prediction formula, the Karvonen or age-based heart-rate method, or the Cooper test, depending on the tool) to the numbers you enter and returns an estimate. A result here is not a fitness assessment, a training prescription, or medical clearance to begin or change an exercise program. We are not coaches, trainers or clinicians, and nothing on this site is written by one.
Where a calculator or guide cites a formula's source, for example the Compendium of Physical Activities behind the MET method, or Riegel's 1977 race-prediction paper, that source is named on the editorial standards page. These are population-average formulas; an individual body can run meaningfully faster or slower than a formula predicts, burn more or fewer calories at a given pace, or have a resting or maximum heart rate outside the typical range the formulas assume. Treat every number on this site as a starting estimate to check against how your own training actually feels, not a fixed target.
The site and its calculators are provided as is, with no guarantee that a projected finish time, calorie estimate or heart-rate zone will match your actual physiology or race-day result. We build each tool to match the published formula it is named for, but we cannot account for individual variation in fitness, terrain, weather or health status.
We are not liable for injuries, missed goals or other outcomes connected to training decisions made using a number from this site, or for anything encountered through an outbound link. Before starting a new training program, particularly if you have an existing health condition, talk with a doctor rather than relying on a calculator alone.
This site carries Google AdSense advertising and a small number of affiliate links, Amazon Associates included. If you click one and buy something, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. See editorial standards for how that revenue is kept separate from what a calculator returns.
We may revise this page as the site or its tools change; the date at the top reflects the last revision. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the current version.
